Bikes and Sneeks - Sneaker Freaker #5
By: Rob Heppler

The internet is a great medium. For bringing sneaker heads together, learning, keeping up on limited editions and release dates. There also seems to be linked trades that have become a staple in the sneaker environment. Music, art, and clothing. But don't limit it to that. The only place your gonna see whats really going on, is on the streets.

Sitting at a stop light in Boston , a couple of sport bikes pull up along side. The signature sound of the exhaust catches my attention, then the blinding chrome makes me look. The riders usually remain faceless due to face masked helmets, the giant "Suzuki" emblem across the back of the leather jacket matches the bike, but what stands out to me, from the traditional motorcycle uniform is the white on white Air Force 1's.

Customizing a motorcycle has been going on since motorcycles were invented, leaving a bike stock (unchanged) is almost a sin. Chrome aftermarket exhaust pipes are one of the first modifications, kind of like changing your laces, its easy, and almost a requirement.

The more bikes I looked at, the more obvious it became, sneakers are another custom accessory. Since this issue of Sneaker Freaker is about customized kicks, why not show how they are used on moving canvases. These riders take pride in their bikes, and they aren't gonna disrespect them with some whack boots.

I took my theory to a car show at Car-risma.com in Lowell Massachusetts . As soon as I got there I saw a kid wearing some Jordan VII's, I knew I was in the right spot. I walked over to the bikes and saw a SICK Suzuki GSX-R 750. It had tons of chrome extras, I looked for the owner, "Yo, whose bike is this" I yelled at a large group of Puerto Ricans. Blank stares and tough guy looks filled the air, but the guy holding the helmet gave me that "duh, you're a retard, obvious kind of look".

Air Max Hepdog

"Peep game, I'm doing a story on sneakers and bikes", and I looked down and saw he was wearing some Air Max 93's Black/Grey suede. "Dude, you wanna be in a magazine? Can I take a picture off your kicks and your bike?" He was very reluctant, but after I gave his sneeks mad props, and he started bragging about you can't get them around here, and these came from San Fransisco.

The next person showed up on a brand new Honda CBR 600, he had regular old blue Converse "Chucks". I had never seen anyone wear these on a bike, because of how little protection they offer. Looking good usually comes first when deciding on a shoe, but if your feet have to hit the pavement doing 90mph I would not want to be wearing Chuck Taylors.

Converse Honda

Randy from MillCityMotorSports.com had one of the NASTIEST bikes at this show, and was it any surprise he had Jordan III retros'. His bike had a sick custom paint job, all chrome, and a T.V screen on the handle bars that was connected to a camera aimed out the tail. Out of control. (3 photos) Can't limit this theory to just bikes, every kid at this show with a custom car was rocking cool shoes.

Now I saved the best for last. Jeff Cook, owner of his own web design company has an AWESOME custom chopper, and the only thing that he will put on his feet are D.C. shoes...

The connection is undeniable.
